I've made some changes to the inclusion/exclusion criteria.
StreetFerret will now exclude roads that are tagged highway=trunk AND have both:
sidewalk=no
shoulder=no
In addition, motorroad=no will also be excluded.
I would recommend that the roads in question be tagged as having no sidewalk and no shoulder, as there should be no question of the verifiability of that tagging.
You can use the following link to test out what StreetFerret will include for a particular city:
http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/12Id
Note that you will have to change the city name from "Boston" to the city of your choice. Hope this solves the problem (and.. makes OSM more accurate in Sweden!)
That sounds like something we can use. I've done a first edit just now and set sidewalk and shoulder to "no". We will see if anyone oppose to that and what will happen in StreetFerret.
It was an interesting discussion in the mailing list and there was also another Swede there verifying that walking is only forbidden on motorways and motorroads in Sweden.

I just force reloaded:
Mölndals kommun
Göteborgs Stad
Let me know how that looks.

Thanks. I'm checking now, but both those cities are blank for me now. Other cities are working.

Looks like I introduced a bug there, but all fixed now. I've pulled up your map and I can see where that motorway has a gap where you made the edit 👍

Great! Yes. It looks really good. Now I can start to remove all those roads not safe for running :-)

Sounds good! Let me know if you encounter more places where the "rule" needs tweaking.

Just a quick follow-up here. I've been seeing the same problem and have taken steps to correct some local roads in Oxford, but without success.
One example is the Northern By-pass Road. The south carriageway is perfectly runnable, with a wide path. The northern carriageway is high speed vehicles only, so not runnable.
A few months ago, I adjusted OSM to reflect this. This is now shown correctly in overpass-turbo.eu, but not in StreetFerret. Do I need to make additional changes to the road in OSM or is there an issue with the parser/database of Oxford roads?
I've put a couple of screenshots on imgur, but can't link directly (not enough posts). The URL is https :// imgur . com / a / YzTm1l8 (without the spaces).
I've obviously not run the northern carriage way, but it's still showing as something that I could run.
Thanks a lot.

The global database updates in a loop which takes about a week to complete for the planet. That's why you see something like the following on the main page:
The city database is up to 6.68 days old
So, the city in question may not have caught up yet. If it has been at least a week, you can force-reload the city. There's a tiny link from the map view that says "Report a problem", and one of those options will hard-reload the city's data and reprocess all activities.

Thanks. It's definitely over a week - I first updated OSM several months ago. I tried the "Report a problem" link and was directed to a url streetferret.com / sf/fix_city?c=394037. There was no indication that the report was successful, but likewise there was no error message. I'm happy to wait a while and see if it worked.

At that page (the /fix_city URL), under the heading "Problem with city/street data" there's a button labelled "Report Missing Streets" which will add the street to a queue for reloading, which should not take terribly long (maybe an hour or two at worst case.
I've just done this for the two cities listed above. That "report a problem" kicks off an automated process to reload the city, so there's no manual review on my part.
