Map views never load

On the City Progress, Street and other map views, the page never finishes loading.
Any suggestions please?

Re: Map views never load

Hi there,

Let me take a look to see what might be wrong.  Please pm me your user id and which city isn't loading for you.

Re: Map views never load

How do I find my SF id?

I have tried clearing my cache + cookies for SF - still doesn't work.

However, I have found that it does work in Microsoft Edge (but who uses this???) and not Chrome (v 81.0.4044.122).

Re: Map views never load

Streetferret uses Strava user ids or else I can look you up by name.  That's strange that you're seeing a browser-specific issue.  I normally use Chrome on my desktop and phone.  Is it an issue with certain cities but not others?  Was it working before but stopped working?

It has never worked.

Here's the error message.

I'll PM you my Strava ID.

Re: Map views never load

Oh!  That error trace is very helpful.  The map view requires WebGL to work and it's saying you don't have it.

Go to to test your browser.  There might be a setting you have turning it off for some reason.

I will work on a fix that reports a proper error message when this happens.

Re: Map views never load

Aha - I have solved it.
I had "Use hardware acceleration when available" in Chrome settings, set to Off.
I turned it On, and the maps load.
If I turn it Off again, the maps don't load.
(So I turned it back On).
Thanks for trying to help - perhaps this gives you some more help for other users.

Re: Map views never load

That setting is madness... turn it off and WebGL reports everything is hunky-dory but the renderings don't actually load.  So far I haven't figured out how to detect it in code.
